Vexillolinguistics is the study of the descriptive language and terminology of flags. A vexillolinguistic description of the 2023 Redesign of the Flag of the State of Minnesota:
A field of ‘Water Blue’ (#52C9E8) featuring a ‘Night Sky Blue’ (#002D5D) reversed chevron, extending 14/15ths the hoist length, its point at 13/20ths. Centered is a white (#FFFFFF) Schläfli octagram, diameter 11/30ths the hoist, vertices spaced equally and each connected to its third. It’s placed vertically center and 21/60ths the hoist length from the hoist.
The Flag of Truce needs only one sentence: ‘A field of white’
The Flag of Minnesota needs three sentences: one for the Water Blue field, one for the Night Sky Blue chevron, and one for the North Star.
The Flag of the United States needs only two sentences, one for the field of horizontal stripes, and one for the canton full of stars.
The Flag of Turkmenistan may be the most complex, vexillolinguistically speaking, possibly requiring ten or even twelve sentences to encapsulate everything.
